ICYMI: It's that time again folks, an update for the Switch and Switch 2, and a surprisingly big one at that! At lease for folks on the Switch 2. The most notable feature this time around is the addition of Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) when docked on the Switch 2. This was available from launch, but only when playing in handheld mode. For those who aren't familiar with the technology, VRR essentially makes a compatible display refresh at the same rate the system is pushing out frames. That means if...

"Autologic" dungeon crawler 'Dungeon Automata' gets new trailer and demo
Dungeon Automata is an upcoming dungeon crawler game from developer Medium-Rare Games, and it packs a twist to the genre. The developers term it as an "autologic" whereby players visually script their party to progress across the in-game labyrinth. Swedish indie publisher Raw Fury and Japan-based publisher Kakehashi Games announced their co-partnership with Medium-Rare Games to publish Dungeon Automata, and aired a new trailer to accompany the announcement:

Welcome to our new Chief Editor...
ICYMI: A few days ago Chary stepped down as Chief Editor after 5 wonderful years, and everyone guessed the seat wouldn't stay empty for very long. Back in 2021 I proudly announced that we had held exactly zero admin meetings to pick her successor. I'm happy to report that this time around we have doubled that number, and after weeks of careful deliberation,
I'd like to announce that Scarlet is taking over as our new Chief Editor :toot::hrth:
If you read the front page at all, you already know...

Nintendo Direct airs later today, what are you hoping to see?
ICYMI: The second of a two-part special, a more traditional Nintendo Direct is set to air today. Unlike the Zelda Direct the contents of this one is still relatively up in the air. What is known is that it'll be a 45 minute showcase putting a spotlight on the Switch 2 games launching later this year. Beyond that though, it's anybody's guess.
As with yesterday, I will be working throughout the presentation, so feel free to discuss it in my stead. When I return home later, I'll pop a summary of the...

The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct airs today, what are you hoping to see?
ICYMI: After being announced last week, the first of two broadcasts is set to go live later today with a stark focus on The Legend of Zelda and its 40th anniversary celebrations. According to a tweet from the Japanese Nintendo account, we'll be seeing more details on the Ocarina of Time remake, alongside various bits of non-gaming media. This most likely hints at a bit more information on the upcoming movie, but could potentially be more.
With me working through the presentation itself, I figured...

A nice break from the negativity - let's look at some games coming out this week
ICYMI: To break up the negativity on the front page a touch, I figured I'd have a poke around Steam's upcoming releases to highlight a few that looked fun to me. The games in this post are all coming out within the next week or so, with there being no particular reason or rhyme as to why they're being featured outside of me thinking they look like a good time. If you happen to have anything on your radar, feel free to share it below. Without further ado though!

Nintendo bans a number of Switch 2 consoles over the weekend, internal server error reportedly to blame
ICYMI: Over the weekend a number of Switch and Switch 2 related subreddits came alive with people reporting bans on their Switch 2 consoles out of nowhere. The error code shown, 2124-4508, completely restricts a console's ability to interact with Nintendo's online services. This most importantly means no access to the eShop, along with any kind of online play. On the various posts floating around, posters claimed to have had nothing to do with piracy, with many stating they have never so much as...

Chary to step down as Chief editor: Thank You for a wonderful 5+ years
ICYMI: It is with a heavy heart that I announce the departure of our beloved Chary from the position of Chief Editor. Chary took over early 2021 and has done a wonderful job over the years, keeping our site and community lively, and managing our editorial staff with a firm hand or two. Her real life has caught up to her and doesn't leave enough time to maintain the busy rythm that this job requires, but fear not: you'll still see her around lurking and contributing every now and then!
